You walked down the street, your brows furrowed. It had been happening for a while now, that strange feeling of being watched. You couldn’t place it, though after your little speech you should’ve been expecting it.
Rubbing the bridge of your nose, you turned on your heel and made way to a group of bushes which were next to the pavement. “.... Nikolai, get out of there.” Said male burrowed his way out from under the shrubbery.
Standing in front of you with a blasé look on his face, he raised his eyebrow at you. After a moment of enduring your intent stare, he caved. “What?”
Resting your hand on your hip, you rolled your eyes. “Quit following me.” Though you’d said that, you were actually feeling quite flattered and your heart skipped a beat when his expression turned pained.
Swiftly turning around, you were about to continue going home when he grabbed hold of your arm. “But if I don’t, I won’t be able to protect you!” You sighed, your cheeks beginning to darken. Glancing back at him, you smiled.
“I don’t need you to protect me. ” You told him and when he opened his mouth to protest, you placed a finger on his lips. “And if I did, I’d want you to protect me like this.” You interlaced your fingers with his and held it up for him to see.
His face turned pink, a small smile gracing his lips. You giggled at his expression and tugged him along. “C’mon then, protect me until I’m home.”
The walk back to your house was uneventful, aside from the fact that Nik glared daggers at anyone who as much as walked on the same side of the pavement as you. But as he walked with you, his body seemed to hum in excitement, the quirk of his lips permanent whenever he looked at you.
His ice-blue eyes took in everything about you, the way your hair moved when you stepped forward, the absent look in your eyes as you stared at the sky told him you were thinking about something. But the stroll home wasn’t very long so you arrived at your destination after a short while, much to Nikolai’s displeasure.
As the two of you stood awkwardly at the door, Nikolai looked at his feet. “.... So did you mean what you said before?” He asked, the question had been niggling at the back of his mind for quite some time now, in fact ever since you’d uttered those words in his defence.
You smiled and nodded at him. “Yes, I did. Even though your way of loving isn’t normal, because it’s very intense, I kind of admire it.” Glancing up at him, you tilted your head as you tried to explain yourself a bit better.
“You devote yourself completely to one person with your entire being. You don’t find that in a guy that much these days.” He grinned impishly, gazing at you. “Then can I devote myself to you completely?”
His question made you stop in your tracks, nailing you to the spot. It didn’t help that his face was serious and his eyes earnest.
You had to free yourself from his intent stare, so you quickly inspected your shoes, biting the inside of your lip gently.
“If you want to. But promise me you won’t stalk me or anything. If you want to be with me and protect me, just walk beside me like just then.” You held up your entwined hands again.
A crooked grin on his face, he pulled you into a tight hug, kissing your cheeks repeatedly. The two of you stayed like that for a moment, during which he swung you around in his arms and was just close to you generally.
Then he lifted your chin up. A childish excitement was present in his expression and gestures and he nuzzled his lips to yours. “Actually, I was wondering if you could teach me how to love like a ‘normal’ person.”
He did the quotations in the air with his free hand and tilted his head inquisitively at you. You sighed and pulled him down to wrap your arms around his neck.
“You don’t need to change for me.” You told him off, not wagging your finger just yet. He whined slightly. “I know that, but I want to try it.”
His chin down, he looked up at you with sparkling eyes. You knew of the infamous puppy-dog look, but it still managed to get you.
“Alright, I suppose I can try and teach you.” It did make you happy he was prepared to change for you and even wanted to, but still he shouldn’t have to. Though the radiant smile on his face made everything seem better.
“Dziakuj!” He crowed, hugging you even closer and snuggling into your neck. God, what were you getting into?
